The Genetics of Alphabet Soup : 5 - Recap Thus far we’ve looked at the building blocks to reveal some of the required structures for creating the legible expressions and how they are kept in control through a stable framework and good editing. We took a glimpse at the copying process and how similar it is to things we are all familiar with. The main points thus far, again: The requirements of a DNA letter include; -
to have the ability to bind to a rigid framework in order to prevent going astray - A FIXED POINT OF REFERENCE -
the controlled ability to move into a location and parallel park – SELECTIVE PLACEMENT. - the need for perfectly reliable and verifiable information – EDITING AND ACCURACY. - above all, a letter must also have some form of recognizability - A MEANING The language itself is as familiar to us as 0, 1, 2 and 3. I like to call the model that illustrates this language “nanosemaphore” Take a break and get ready to change gears. While you are relaxing, try thinking about the people who guide the aircraft at airports with their flags or perhaps the funny claw-waving behavior of fiddler crabs. You may even try raising and lowering each and both eyebrows in a mirror. This won’t help, but we’re sure to get a good laugh…! (Actually, they will help !) Find out why at the very intriguing “nanosemaphore” site ).
