Three Speed Transmission In Horses

Misinformation is the most common form of data that exists. This page, from my notes, has several wrong words for the wrong things strewn through it and even lacks a few gear types. Why? 'Cause when I asked a self-professed erudite on the subject, she gave me what amounted to horse-poop...

Illustration of horse leg motion in pace, trot and gallop as first, second and third gear of automotive transmission.

But wrong words and fact need not lead to an entire waste. One can visibly see a horse go through a similar change of gears (and then some), just as we see this in the movement of a persons' arms and legs as they go from standing; to walking; to jogging; to running. The wrong word for something only has importance in communication, where the wrong facts may affect understanding drastically. The diagram above, may lead one who is better informed to fill-in-the-blanks, or another to be led miserably astray about the words and definitions of a few of the horses' gears. At the best of times, misinformation is like a virus, spreading contageously until recognized.

Don't only take what you see or hear with a grain of salt, take it with a whole salt-lick !!
